Three neighbourhoods we would buy in this year
Santos in Lisbon, Logan Square in Chicago and Zilker in Austin — and the trade-offs of each.

We are asked for a recommendation weekly. Here are three places we would put our own money, and the honest trade-off of each.
Santos, Lisbon
Riverside, walkable and still affordable compared with Chiado. The trade-off is noise: the tram is charming for about a week.
Logan Square, Chicago
Wide boulevards, brick two-flats and a reliable restaurant row. The trade-off is winter, which is Chicago’s only real downside.
The best neighbourhoods feel slightly under-priced until suddenly they do not.
Zilker, Austin
Close to the park and the river and surrounded by low-slung houses that never got the memo about being rebuilt. The trade-off is flooding in a few streets; check the map.
